Just a reminder that the above early Autumn break is going ahead, and bookings are being received by the hotel. There will be SGC there as singles, also with their other halves. Golf is available for everyone, but for non-golfers there will be an organised trip to a local place if interest. This promises to be a memorable weekend. For all the details, costs, etc please refer to the details below.
Thanks you to everyone that replied to the original email, which was as you know; to test the interest amongst SGC`s and your partners in regards to a weekend away at Carlyon Bay Hotel.
I`m pleased to report that we have received enough interest to run the weekend. For those of you that were not able to commit previously; you are most welcome to join in.

SGC Carlyon Bay Weekend 2023 – Gauging Interest
The Somerset Golf Captains Committee have recently discussed the idea of an away weekend (2 nights), at the Carlyon Bay Hotel in Cornwall. This came about following a. conversation with the Gloucestershire Vice-Captain, who mentioned that they have done it for a number of years; being well supported by Past Captains and their partners (some golfers some not).
The following gives you an overview of what we think might be possible and we would be grateful if you could let us know if you might be interested.
Possible Dates: Saturday 30th September 2023 – Monday 2nd October 2023
If people wanted to stay an extra night (before or after the two days), it would be at the same daily rate and include another round of golf.
Cost PER PERSON, PER NIGHT, DB&B inc golf (whether you’re a golfer of not):
Inland twin / double: £ 150 (£600 for 2 people for 2 nights)
Sea Facing twin / double: £ 160 (£680 for 2 people for 2 nights)
Single Inland: £ 155 (£310 for 2 nights)
Single Sea Facing: £ 175 (£350 for 2 nights)
The above rates include dinner, bed, breakfast; a round of golf daily; 20% discount on buggy hire; soup & sandwich lunch at the clubhouse.
Prize / Entertainment Fund, say £ 15 each.
(We could also utilise the hotel grounds par 3 course for something?)
A deposit of £50 per person would be required on booking.
Possible Programme:
Tee Times:
Saturday 30th September @ 09.24 – 10.28 (for anyone staying the Friday night) and 13.08-14.08 (for those travelling down on Saturday morning)

Sunday 1st October: Dinner 2nd night – Gala Dinner
Other activities
We could organise a minibus or coach (depending on numbers) for a day trip to one of the following each day: Fowey, or Truro, Lost Gardens of Heligan, or Llanhydroch House (again for a fixed charge per person)
Way Forward
- Expressions of Interest: We need to gauge how many people might be interested, so that we can make an informed decision about whether to proceed or not. If you are interested, please email David Bate (Captain Elect) before the end of October using his email address which is davidbate45@aol.com
- Decision to go ahead or not: At the end of October, the Committee will decide whether to go ahead or not, depending on the number of people who have expressed interest as above.
- Deposits; If the event goes ahead, deposits of £50 per person will be payable directly to the hotel.
- Final payments: The hotel will require balancing payments a few weeks before the stay.
Kind regards, David Bate.
